Sharpen Your Focus & Memory

Research shows that memory loss begins as early as age 45. So not surprising when you find harder to focus your attention and absorb information you often blame the age. Indeed  aging leads to gradual changes in many skills associated with thinking and memory. But is not a  reason to start improving your brain activity.

Think about your brain as being a muscle which can only be kept in shape if constantly trained.

As you exercise your body you should exercise your brain to keep them both fit.

Eating the right diet will be decisive to improve your focus and attention. But there are more strategies you can add to your routine.

Try the following four and see how you can stay away from distractions and increase the ability to focus.

  • Pay attention to what other tell you. Listen and look at the person who is talking to you. Ask them to repeat if you don't understand what they say. Making sense of what you've heard will help your memory to retain the information.
  • Put the information you just received into your own words. Learning process  is not complete until you practice the teaching. Simply writing or verbally repeating what you've learned using your own interpretation and words will help your brain to assimilate and store the info on the long term memory. The more senses( smell, taste, hearing, touch, sight) you involve to store the new info the better. 
  • When you are thinking of having an important conversation choose a quiet place, with no distractions.That will help to listen and understand what everyone has to say without disruptions. A restaurant or a coffee shop are perfect for entertaining and socializing but not great for a deep conversation.
  • Do not multitask. Humans are not able to do more than one think at one time.What some consider a quality is in fact a attention deficit. To do something right you should focus on doing that particular one till you consider it done. Then start something else.
